GIPPCC Community Health Report 2019

As a collaborative entity, GIPPCC undertakes several key tasks to further the growth of quality pediatric palliative care programs in Illinois, including the following: (1) organizing and leading education programs; (2) consulting and advising hospice programs, particularly smaller programs that only care for the occasional child, regarding quality care for children; (3) educating policy makers and the community regarding the need for change in the system of care for kids with advanced illnesses; (4) directing and engaging in research with the collective group; (5) improving the complex continuity of care for children with advanced illnesses; (6) operationalizing a mentorship program for nurses and physicians; and (7) striving to ensure available, consistent quality palliative care for every child in Illinois with a serious illness.

The Investiture of Dr. Kelly Michelson as the Julia and David Uihlein Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities

On June 24, Kelly N. Michelson, MD, MPH, was formally invested as the Julia and David Uihlein Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  Dr. Michelson has achieved local, national, and international recognition as a clinician-scientist. Her research focuses on communication and decision-making in the pediatri1c intensive care unit and pediatric palliative care settings. As an educator, Dr. Michelson has made a lasting impact on innumerable clinicians.  Her mentorship of over 40 individuals has led to mentee grant funding and publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. Billie Winegard, MD, MPH, Joins the Pediatric Supportive Care Team at CHOI

May 30, 2018

The Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) is pleased to announce that Billie Winegard, MD, MPH, has joined the Pediatric Supportive Care team as the Medical Director. Dr. Winegard earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.  She completed her pediatric residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and fellowship in Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Nemours/AI Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
